“Everyone thinks I’m doing great. I’m exhausted, I’m resentful, and somehow I still think I should be doing more.”

You’re the reliable one. You remember what matters to people, notice what needs doing, and usually do it before anyone asks. You care about getting things right. But even when everyone else is happy and the job is done, you’re replaying something you said or wondering whether you could have done it better. It’s hard to enjoy your life when you’re constantly grading yourself on how you’re living it.

People pleasing and perfectionism can earn us a lot of praise, which makes it difficult to recognize what they’re costing us. Somewhere along the way, we may have learned that being good, helpful, or impressive was how we stayed loved and included. Now we’re adults who feel guilty resting and take someone’s disappointment as evidence that we’ve failed.

These are patterns Nicole calls the Type T personality, and they can follow us right into JournalSpeak. We explain why we shouldn’t be angry. We make sure everyone in the story gets a fair defense. We try to write the thing that will finally make us better, then judge ourselves when we still feel stuck.

In this bootcamp, Nicole and Lisa will help you use the page to say what being “good” hasn’t allowed you to say. We’ll explore the pressure to keep everyone happy, the fear of getting something wrong, and the feelings underneath the effort. You don’t have to change every relationship or habit before you can give yourself this honesty.

Your JournalSpeak doesn’t have to be fair, impressive, or useful to anyone else. For once, you get to say what you feel without making it easier for someone to hear.

What we’ll explore
  • Recognizing your Type T patterns: Noticing when kindness becomes a need for approval, and when doing your best becomes refusing to let yourself be human.
  • The feelings behind being “easy”: Using JournalSpeak to express the anger, disappointment, and exhaustion you tend to swallow to avoid conflict.
  • The constant self-review: Bringing the voice that scans for mistakes onto the page and exploring whose approval still feels so necessary.
  • Writing before you’re ready to change: Giving your feelings somewhere to go, even when your responsibilities remain or you’re not ready to handle a relationship differently.
  • Trying to get JournalSpeak right: Recognizing when you’re editing your feelings or turning the practice into another test, and learning to meet yourself with more compassion.

Whether you’re new to JournalSpeak or have been doing it for years, we’ll help you make the practice more honest and less demanding. You spend enough of your life trying to do a good job. Let’s make room for what it feels like to be the person doing all that trying.
