What’s Included In The Course

Anxiety is not a disorder. Learn the skills you need to calm yourself in anxiety-provoking situations, and create new neural pathways to bring your nervous system into a parasympathetic state. The Anxiety Pose will give you a framework to reclaim your moments and your life.

Pause:

Stop, breathe. Press your internal pause button so you can create some space to respond, rather than react.

Observe:

Is this danger clear, present, and real RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT? Am I physically in harm’s way? Do I need to flee, fight, or freeze? Is this really my issue, or I am allowing someone else’s drama to be my own? Take a deeper look at the situation from the safety of your Pause. Whose feelings are these? And do they constitute an emergency for me as they exist right at this moment?

Stay and Soothe:

Do not run away, even in your mind. There is no danger here, and no need for the nervous system (NS) to perceive a threat. Breathe. You can be with this. The anxiety will only increase if you push these feelings away, as the brain and NS are always looking for your conscious input to know if danger is near. Do what you need to do to soothe. Journal. Take a walk, or a bath. Talk to a friend. Reach out in a support forum. Talk to yourself, out loud if you can: “I am safe. My brain is reacting to a trigger. It’s deeper than this moment. I am safe.” Be with the sensations in your body, don’t resist them. Feel into the tightness in your chest and throat. Tell them, “I feel you tightening. I’m right here for this. You are confused, but I don’t need protection. I am safe, and I am here for me.”

Embrace:

Practice acceptance. This is a human life. We are built for big feelings. We can’t live fully without feeling them. It can and will be okay. There is no way out, other than through. Say to yourself, “I can be here, right now. I can find the beauty in my deep feelings. Indeed, if I want to thrive, I have no choice.”

How long does the course take to complete?
The course is 14 Lessons and can reasonably be completed in 30 days. You will have a year to complete it, so take your time and re-visit the course when you need a refresher.

What materials will I need to participate in the course?
You will need a journal (or a computer or tablet if you prefer to journal electronically), and basic art supplies. The most important things to bring are your willingness and openness to embrace something new to change your life!

Can I interact with Nicole or other experts during the course?
